Hawzah News Agency (Birjand, Iran) – Hujjat al-Islam Muhammad Hassan Zamani addressed a group of Muslim scholars at an Islamic Unity conference  in the Iranian city of Birjand, saying, “Any effort carried out with the purpose of promoting unity within the Muslim community is considered as an act of religious worship.”

He added, “Unity is one of the main and original Quranic teachings and the Shia and Sunni scholars who are standing against the extremist movements must be supported in their cause.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, Hujjat al-Islam Zamani asserted, “The ongoing efforts to promote Islamic unity is not solely due to the existence of a common enemy, rather it is our religious duty as Muslims to unite in our resolve as a community.”

Head of the Secretariat of World Congress against Extremism and Takfiri Movements further pointed out that Takfirism is not a new phenomenon since such radical movements have existed throughout the history of Islam, he added, “However, this boom of takfiri thoughts with its present scale that involves many countries is something never seen before; this is the result of US-Israeli ill policies.”

Hujjat al-Islam Zamani concluded, “Shia and Sunni scholars have a duty to promote genuine Islam in the World.”
